I’m trying to save my money ,. I’m 14 years old ; and I have a job , but whenever I get my paycheck I feel the need to spend it . I’m technically supposed to be putting half of it in the bank but that hasn’t started yet . I want to save up to go on a big shopping spree or something but I’m always like "oh . . . I’ll start saving after I do this ;"
How can I disipline myself to save my money ? !

We just moved in this house this past spring and it has baseboard heating. It’s only november and our electric bill is already getting ridiculous. We have a three year old so we have to keep the house nice and cozy. Does anyone have any ideas on how to save some money but still keep the house nice and warm?

First, check to see if there is insulation in the walls. If you have an unfinished attic, that should be insulated too. Ask a few contractors to take a look and give you an estimate. Depending on where it’s needed, you can add the fiberglass insulation yourself.

You also have to look at your doors and windows and make sure they are as air tight as possible. On a cold day, walk around and put your hand up to see if you feel any drafts. Check out a hardware or home improvement store for window insulation kits– there are lots of different kinds. Also think about adding heavy drapes on windows that are particularly drafty.

In terms of the heating, try turning it down when you’re gone for a few hours or more and at night when you have blankets to keep you warm. A programmable thermostat can do that for you.

Long term, ask a few contractors about the costs of switching to gas forced air.

I"m like always asking my parents for money and i wanna earn money my way or find ways to get money easy or fast or sumthing and i when i do get money its hard to save i need methods on saving money and also getting money? and i’m a 15 and i can’t get a job yet but yea..any SMART ways ?

I am only 14 years old and obviously have an addiction to shopping.
This summer I am going to Washington DC and have to pay part of it. I get an allowance and I know to save.
What are small tips that will help me save money.
Something like not buying that starbucks or something. I really need the money. Its hard being a teenager who loves shopping and trying to save money!

Your downfall is the shopping. You can’t have money if you spend it and no tips on the planet will work for you if you don’t set your goals and work to achieve them. You might want to find a part time job and probably too young to work for an employer but you can work for yourself. What are your skills? Use them to help your customers and clients. Check out the library for books like "Fast Cash for Kids" by Bonnie & Noel Drew. Have your parents open up a savings account for you… DO NOT accept an ATM card and continue to fund that account with every dollar you can until the trip. Once you see the balance accumulating, you will have more motivation to funding it and not using it. Stay out of stores. Borrow and trade things with friends. Use the services of the library. You have to choose between your shopping and your longer term goals.

She had the airforce to fly an empty plane( her plane is special, but that’s a different story) from SFO to Travis AFB because she was at her vineyards to save herself a 45 min commute. I’m sure this story will lead off NBC news tonight.

The speaker of the house having a special plane was an idea created by the Bush administration, and the republican controlled congress. The speaker this plane was first created for was Dennis Hasstert (R). Pick your battles. This is not a good one for conservatives. They wrote the legislation that provided Nacy with her plane. Trust me you don’t want his story on MSNBC or CNN. It will expose yet more phoney outrage from the hypocritical right-wing. Without them, she wouldn’t have this plane. VERY FUNNY!

You guys seriously don’t realise that Hastert had a plane too? EVEN MORE FUNNY! I suppose you were equally outraged when you saw this reported on FOX news when it happened after 9/11. Oh wait… they probably didn’t report it. It would have made him look bad. He did not fly civilian flights, he flew on his own personal C-20 aircraft. As it is that Republicans wrote the bill that provided Hastert (and all future speakers of the house) this plane, they have no one to point the blame at for her having a plane but themselves. Republicans in congress are the ones who thought that speakers was entitled enough to have his/her own plane. It’s interesting that you are outraged over this, but most people outrage is way off the target because all they know is what they’ve seen on FOX news. Anyone could easily research this bill themselves through an impartial source as I did.

Edit: Ababa, you are exactly right that the did plane had a purpose, and still does! The plane Hastert had is not capable of flying coast to coast most of the year (Though I’m told by experts that it is possible some times) without refueling. Seeing how most of the outrage here is not specifically over the size of the plane, but the plane itself, everything I said still applies. Now if you want to talk about the size of the plane being the issue… that’s a completely different matter of even less significance, and it still doesn’t excuse the republicans for being the ones that created the ’speaker plane’.

If Nancy went back to using the C-20 Hastert used would you be satisfied? Because I don’t think that would satisfy most of the phoney outrage here, which seems to be based in the fact she has ANY plane at all.

Unfortunately i only have electric baseboard heaters. I don’t have the money to invest in a new system, so I guess i’m looking for any tricks or tips on ways to keep the cost down. Thanks
